Erik is a Meteorologist by trade and is currently Associate Director of the Extreme Events Institute and the International Hurricane Research Center at Florida International University (FIU ) in Miami, Florida. Education outreach has been a career focus for Erik, including the StormZone Education Program. Prior to FIU, Erik worked at Miami-based America's Emergency Network (AEN) with Bryan Norcross, Hurricane Specialist for Miami, Florida-based WPLG-TV and Max Mayfield, and former National Hurricane Center Director. Before AEN, Erik was Project Coordinator for the non-profit Hurricane Warning at the Disaster Survival House, located in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was also on the City’s Crisis Activation Team, participating in activations that included Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma. Erik has over 25 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist, providing live continuous coverage primarily for hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.
